Jim has provided technical expertise for the design and preparation of permit applications and construction plans for local and state approval for nearly 20 years in the North Country. His efforts have contributed to the successful completion of many residential, commercial and industrial developments. He collaborates with municipalities interested in replacing or expanding infrastructure to maintain a reliable service network for their communities. He works closely with vendors and contractors to develop durable and cost-effective solutions which are constructed to perform to meet the client's needs and to meet local and state regulatory requirements.
Jim graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2003 . He worked at the New England Water Treatment Technology Center as a research assistant and as a teaching assistant while earning his Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2007. He explored wetland and soil science at the University of New Hampshire, earned a Certificate in US Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Mapping in 2010, and continues to pursue soil mapping and wetland classification to strengthen his design base. He enjoys working with other professionals, technical research groups and local and state agencies to improve outreach & public relations, technical review processes (LEAN), material specifications, construction methods to best serve the industry.
Jim works as a Civil Engineer for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance in the Northern Region. He enjoys the comraderies, challenges and experiences in public service, and he provides guidance to state crews for highway maintenance projects. He completes technical reviews for the Department, and for this reason, Riverside Engineering refrains from working on projects within the state highway right of way. In 2020 Jim earned his Certified Public Manager Certificate with the Department.
Jim volunteers his time and expertise for projects of historical or cultural significance to the surrounding communities. He participated in the Littleton River District Redevelopment Committee, Budget Committee, Zoning Board and as a Parking Commissioner. He was involved with the Littleton Highway Department Building Replacement Committee in 2013, and he provided technical support during public informational sessions and during construction. In 2016 he started the Apthorp Block Party, with support from the Littleton Parks & Recreation Department, to bring back the 4th of July firework celebration for the children of the community after nearly two decades without fireworks. The event is now held annually at Remich Park.
